Teresa of Avila: Exploring the Interior Castle

“I thought of the soul as resembling a castle, formed of a single diamond or a very transparent crystal, and containing many rooms, just as in heaven there are many mansions.”
—Mother Teresa Sánchez de Cepeda y Ahumada

You’re invited to spend a morning immersing yourself in Teresa of Avila’s wisdom about the spiritual journey. Beloved mystic by many, Teresa lived her adult life as a Catholic nun in the area near Avila, Spain during the Spanish Inquisition in the 1500’s.  A charming girl and woman who from an early age wanted to dedicate her life to God, Teresa joined the Carmelite order.

In The Interior Castle, Teresa shares her radical understanding of the relationship that the Beloved desires with us. Together we will follow this map of the spiritual life as a prototype for our own spiritual journey.  We will ponder and reflect on how we can use Teresa’s insights to draw us closer to the Divine Lover.  All are welcome!
